The New York Yankees (37-29) and Los Angeles Angels (28-38) will open up their weekend series at Angel Stadium of Anaheim with a Friday night matchup. The first pitch is set for 10:05 p.m. ET and will air live on Fox West and mlb.com with a paid subscription.

Andy Pettitte (5-3) will look to continue the momentum he held en route to capturing his 250th career win during his last start. He became the 47th major league pitcher to reach the milestone Saturday throwing 7 1/3 innings and allowing just one run off of three hits in a 3-1 win over the Mariners.

However, Pettitte has struggled against the Angels dating back to 2008. He has a 2-5 with a 5.83 ERA in nine matchups during regular season matchups. Pettitte gave up five runs and nine hits in a 5-1. seven inning loss to the Angels on May 29, 2012.

The Yankees are hoping to see a change in this trend as they are desperately seeking a win after being swept in a three game series at Oakland, with a 3-2 18-inning loss Thursday. Mariano Rivera allowed the game winning run off of a Nate Freiman single, while the Yankee offense failed to capitalize with runners in scoring position going 1 for 13 and finishing the series 5 for 26 when faced with those opportunities.

Pettitte will face C.J. Wilson (4-5) who is coming off a disappointing start against the Red Sox. Wilson pitched just five innings and allowed three runs, but was saddled with the loss for his efforts.

He has earned a loss in two of his last three starts while pitching for a 6.35 ERA. However, he's fared well against the Yankees with a 1-0 record and a 2.14 ERA in his last three outings against the Bronx Bombers.
