NFL Bans Bags: Large Purses, Seat Cushions Camera Bags No Longer Allowed In Stadium

The perception of the NFL as the manliest of sports leagues did nothing to curry favor with members of the fairer sex today, as the league announced large purses will no longer be admissible inside stadiums.

In order to make games "safer" and "expedite fan entry" all 30 NFL teams are implementing policies regarding the size of bags that can be carried inside the stadium. Beginning with the preseason, large purses will no longer be allowed; additionally, coolers, backpacks, briefcases, cinch bags, seat cushions and camera bags are all big no-nos.

What NFL patrons will be allowed to carry are clear, plastic or vinyl bags no larger than 12'' x 6'' x 12, '' according to reports. Jeffrey Miller, the NFL's vice president and chief security officer, released a statement explaining the league's decision.

"Our fans deserve to be in a safe and secure environment," NFL vice president and chief security officer Jeffrey Miller said in a statement. "Public safety is our top priority. This will make the job of checking items much more efficient and effective. We will be able to deliver a better and quicker experience at the gates and also provide a safer environment. We appreciate our fans' cooperation."

Miller's statement also made reference to a "secondary perimeter" around stadiums where fans will be checked for banned items. "This establishes a protected buffer area for fans in plaza-level areas and at the queues for stadium entry," the statement said. "Any prohibited bag inside the second perimeter will be highly visible and more quickly resolved."

Reports say that NFL.com will soon be offering league-approved clear tote bags with team logos on them. We have come up with a way to do it that will actually make access more convenient for fans than it has been," says the league. "We think the fans will embrace and appreciate it."
