Debate is part of our culture, and it is one of the many reasons why we love sports - the endless discussion opportunities it affords us.

Occasionally, the same issue can be divisive and unifying. It sounds oxymoronic, but it does happen on rare occasions. One such issue has been at the forefront of the international soccer scene for several years now.
The overwhelming majority of people on the planet would agree that Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are the two best active players. However, outside of Portugal and Argentina, there is rarely a consensus about which of the two is better. It only further complicates matters that the two will undoubtedly rank among the all-time greats when their playing days are over, and some people would already argue that they are the two best ever to play the sport.

On these complicated issues, we often defer to experts or other people who have more experience, and if they happen to be a legend in the same sport, even better.
The Brazilian (some would say original) Ronaldo is an all-time soccer great by any measure, and he recently gave his thoughts on the Ronaldo-Messi debate. When asked, he barely hesitated before declaring Messi the greatest player in the game today.
Ronaldo has previously expressed a similar opinion, as he was asked about his all-time starting 11 a few months ago, and he included Messi in the squad while leaving Cristiano Ronaldo out.
