Speed kills, and according to Usain Bolt, so too does the cold.
The world's fastest man, standing in Times Square to unveil his new line of Puma Ignite shoes, performed a U-turn over his desire to play for Manchester United. For Bolt, the cold Manchester weather and the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson was enough to let an old dream die.
"A few things have changed my mind a little bit," he said (via Goal). "The fact that Alex Ferguson retired and the cold weather, I'm not a fan of it."
"I did a shoot with [Sergio] Aguero, who is another PUMA ambassador, and we were in the kit and it was horribly cold in Manchester," he added. "I actually joked that he should lose the [then upcoming] derby match, but they beat us, which wasn't cool."
Now 28, the six-time gold medalist previously begged Sir Alex to give him a free trial at Manchester, proclaiming (via Daily Mail): "I know I could make a difference. I'd be the fastest in the team, but I can play as well. If Ferguson called me up and said, 'Okay, let's do this, come and have a trial,' it would be impossible for me to say no."
Scheduled to feature at Rio Ferdinand's testimonial in 2013, Bolt eventually backed out due to previous commitments at the world championships.
Manchester United sit third in the Premier League table with 47 points and will travel to the Deepdale area of Preston to face Preston North End in the fifth round of the FA Cup this Saturday.
