Tonight at 8 p.m. ET, the Detroit Red Wings (31-12-9, 71 points) and Pittsburgh Penguins (30-15-8, 68 points) face-off for the second of three meetings this season live from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
Detroit has won three straight games and closes out a three-match road trip while Pittsburgh makes a quick stop home after winning two out of three contests on its recent road trip.
The Penguins enter play in second place in the Metropolitan Division while the Red Wings are third in the Atlantic Division thus far.
The first time these two teams met, Detroit topped Pittsburgh 4-3 in overtime on Oct. 23.
This game is part of the NHL's Wednesday Night Rivalry and can be live streamed for free by clicking here.
The Red Wings enter play off of a 3-1 victory over the Arizona Coyotes on Saturday and will once again have Petr Mrazek in net with Jimmy Howard (groin) still sidelined.
"It's been a great month," Mrazek told NHL.com. "I think we had nine (wins) in January, or 10, so that was a great month for us, for the team. So we can be happy with that."
Mrazek has started eight of the Detroit's last 10 games and is 13-4-1 overall this season with a 2.42 goals-against average and a .914 save percentage.
He'll likely be countered by Marc-Andre Fleury in the crease for Pittsburgh and he is 25-11-5 with a 2.25 goals-against average and a .922 save percentage while pacing the NHL with eight shutouts.
The Penguins are coming off of a tough 5-0 shutout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday, but as the team continues to get healthy, they're ready to keep earning points.
"No more excuses here," Patric Hornqvist said via NHL.com. "It's up to us. We know we have a good team. We just have to show everyone that."
The Penguins have been paced by Sidney Crosby this season as he is second in the NHL with 56 points and tied for second with 39 assists. Evgeni Malkin is second on Pittsburgh with 52 points off of 20 goals and 32 assists while Kris Letang has nine tallies and 32 helpers for 41 points.
The Red Wings counter with a nice blend of young and veteran offensive talent that has been paced by Henrik Zetterberg, who has a team-best 47 points off of 15 goals and 32 assists.
Tomas Tatar leads Detroit with 23 goals and is second with 39 points while Gustav Nyquist also has 39 points off of 20 tallies and 19 helpers.
Two teams looking to improve their playoff positioning go head-to-head when the puck drops live tonight from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh.
