David Wright News: Mets Approached Dating Site On Star's Behalf

The New York Mets are convinced David Wright is an All-Star, and team officials are willing to do whatever may be needed to prove it.

According to ESPN, a team marketing official recently contacted a dating website that pairs older women with younger men in hopes of promoting Wright’s candidacy. ESPN adds team officials ultimately got cold feet and backed off before the deal could be fully consummated.

Wright, 30, was recently named "MLB's Hottest Cub" via a vote of more than 11,000 respondents on the dating website Cougarlife.com. Armed with that information, the employee apparently thought it might be prudent to partner with the site on his behalf.

In a statement obtained by ESPN, team officials noted: "Cougar Life voted David Wright as the hottest cub. In our effort to expand All-Star balloting to wider audiences, so as to increase votes, we did reach out to Cougar Life. Last year there was a big swing of votes at the end that cost David the starting job. We decided to do everything to make sure that doesn't happen again this year.”

Either way, Wright’s presence is already assured for the July 16 game to be played on his home field. He’s already been named captain for the Home Run Derby and is prominently featured on all official advertisement leading up to the game. In addition, he trails San Francisco Giants third baseman Pablo Sandoval by just 200,000 votes in the most recent balloting as the starting third baseman.

"It's nice when the organization is trying so hard to do something for one of their players," Wright told ESPN. “I can't thank them enough for that. You appreciate what they're trying to do, and they're very good-hearted.”
