Robert Griffin III isn't just being assailed by critics on social media -- he's in turn using the venue to rightfully defend himself from naysayers.

The Washington Redskins quarterback kicked off a minor controversy on Tuesday when he posted a video of himself singing Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" while on his way to off-season workouts.

Redskins Fans Rip Robert Griffin For Michael Jackson Instagram Video

Inexplicabaly, a lot of people thought the video was indication that RG3 wasn't taking himself seriously enough, and left comments calling him "arrogant" and "self-centered." One user posted that he'd be happy if Griffin were to be cut by Washington.

Griffin was understandably taken aback by the unwarranted criticism, and left an Instagram post that were basically his way of taking the high road.

On Twitter, Griffin also RT'd a tweet from user @Lizzs_Lockeroom, which criticized the double standard between how much negative publicity RG3's Instagram video got versus his positive service contributions to the local D.C. community.
