The Denver Broncos have parted ways with veteran running back Willis McGahee after releasing him on Thursday. McGahee has served as the team's starter the past two seasons.

"I knew it was going to happen. It is what it is. They are going younger," McGahee told ESPN's Josina Anderson.

The Broncos current running back depth chart includes second-year pro Ronnie Hillman and rookie Montee Ball. Both players have seen the majority of action during the team's offseason workouts.

McGahee told ESPN that he hopes the young Denver running backs find success.

"I don't have anything against the people behind me. Now they have the opportunity. I wish them nothing but the best of luck. They're all good kids," he said.

The 32-year-old is coming off a knee injury that forced him to miss the final two months of the 2012 season. McGahee was scheduled to make $2.5 million in 2013.

McGahee told ESPN that he is 100 percent now and that he is not experiencing any restrictions when running. He also added that Denver did not ask him about returning with a lower salary.

"I will keep playing," he said. "I don't feel like I have to go out there and say what I have left. I know what I can do. I'm not worried about it. Once I get the opportunity, it will be all good."

The veteran back said he has a list of potential teams he would be interested in joining next season.

"There are a lot of places I wouldn't mind playing. You got Miami, Dallas, Green Bay, San Diego, Oakland. That's not necessarily my order of preference, though. All of those teams I mentioned I would go to with no problems," he said.
