The relationship between Washington Redskins fans and quarterback Robert Griffin III can't be described as anything but tumultuous.

It started with so much promise and good will, as Griffin won the 2012 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award en route to leading the Skins to a postseason playoff berth.

However, inconsistent play and a range of injuries in the past two seasons have conspired to significantly dint the glow of RG3's tenure in D.C. This year he was even briefly benched by head coach Jay Gruden.

Now comes the latest off-season distraction for Griffin, in the form of bickering with fans on social media. First, the QB posted a video of himself singing Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" whilst driving to his workout.

Multiple Redskins fans apparently took issue with RG3's post, railing at him to put the phone away and focus on getting better at the quarterback position. One particularly mean-spirited fan called him "self-centered and cocky."

“And I’m presenting myself in a negative way by doing . . . what exactly?” Griffin later responded per Pro Football Talk.

Griffin is forgetting the first rule of social media for superstars -- don't engage the trolls.
