With the abundance of hunting spots in the United States, some folks may need to narrow down their searches. Here are some of the top locations in the U.S. by region that hunters can visit.
East
Connecticut Zone 11
Crossbows are now legal here, and Connecticut is well-known for lengthy archery seasons as well as generous limits on how much hunting can be done. Per Deerhuntingguide.net, bow hunters have been known to harvest upward of 20 deer.
If that sounds outlandish, some of those deer are put to good use too. A program called Hunt To Feed allows hunters to donate venison he's harvested to the Connecticut Food Bank free of charge.
Midwest
Kansas: Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area
Hunters in search of a good place to shoot ducks must check out the Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area thanks to the new lack of cattails, seeding millet and duck cover. There are 19,875 acres of land in this Wildlife Area, and renovations made during the 1990s have helped conserve water during drought-like conditions. These days though, the hunting is as good as ever.
South
Oklahoma: Cedar Lake
Cedar Lake is an incredible hotspot for bass fishing, having set records in back-to-back years for largemouth bass catches. In March 2013 Dale Miller of Panama reeled in a 14-pound, 13.7 ounce fish about a week shy of the day the old record of 14-pound, 12.3-ounces was set in 2012. Part of the reason for the bass explosion is renovations made by the U.S. Forest Service.
West
Alaska: Mat-Su Valley
At Mat-Su Valley there are 23,000 acres of land to work with, and there is speculation that 2014 could be historic for moose hunting after some rough winters.
