After thoroughly dominating Devon Alexander in his second career welterweight fight, Amir Khan is itching for a bigger stage to show his skills. Khan, who has been nudging both Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao to step in the ring with him, took to Twitter to widen his net.

Specifically, Khan tweeted a bit more about Cotto, whose status is very much up in the air. Cotto's been very reluctant to take on WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, a knockout artist who is also the mandatory challenger for Cotto's WBC title. Golovkin is scheduled to fight on February 21, but as one of the sport's most active champions he could be ready to fight again by May.

Other names that have been mentioned have name value, such as Timothy Bradley and Brandon Rios, but are not middleweights. Khan is also not a middleweight, but he has more star power and a larger fan base than any of the current names that could possibly take Cotto on. More importantly, Khan is willing to move up significantly in weight to make the fight happen.

Since bringing on Freddie Roach as his trainer Cotto has won two consecutive fights in dominant fashion. He knocked out journeyman Delvin Rodriguez in three rounds in October 2013, and followed that up with a career-defining demolition of Sergio Martinez in June 2014.

Cotto showed renewed dedication to body punching, accuracy, and light feet that allowed him to easily outbox the favored Martinez. Despite all that, Khan believes he matches up well with Cotto.
