Patrick Reed sits eighth in the PGA Tour leaderboard entering this weekend's Farmers Insurance Open, but the 24-year-old's standing in the court of public perception is of deeper concern.

Reed, who boasts four PGA Tour victories, including a win at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions, responded to a book exerpt by former Grantland.com writer Shane Ryan.

In a statement through his management company, the Augusta State University alum said (via ESPN): "Accusations that were made against me are serious and were intended to damage my reputation and character, they will not be taken lightly. My team and my representatives are looking into all aspects of this matter, and we look forward to setting the record straight."

"For now, I'm staying focused on my life in the present and being the best husband, father and golfer I can be."

The allegations stem from a qualifying round prior to a tournament in college. According to Ryan's sources, Reed attempted to hit a ball closer to the fairway after his landed far into the rough. Missing items in a locker room further complicated matters for Reed, including a watch, Scotty Cameron putter and $400 cash. Reed showed up the next day with a huge sum of money, prompting suspicion from his teammates.

With Reed not participating this weekend, expect some changes in the 2015 FedExCup Standings.
