The road to WrestleMania 31 is underway, kicking off the most exciting time of the year for the WWE.
3 Biggest Takeaways From Triple H's Interview With 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin
The company has planted many seeds for the "Show of Shows" this year, but nothing has been made official for the event.
The card is up in the air following the news that Daniel Bryan will battle Roman Reigns at Fast Lane later this month to determine who will face Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31.
With that in mind, we'll take a look at five possible matches for WrestleMania 31 at Levi's Stadium in California.
Honorable Mentions: John Cena vs. Rusev II, a battle royal and a bout involving all the Divas.
1) Daniel Bryan vs. Dolph Ziggler, Roman Reigns vs. Daniel Bryan: I lumped these two together due to the implications of Fast Lane.
It's very unlikely the WWE wavers from its original Reigns vs. Lesnar plans, though having fans get angry over yet another Bryan loss to keep him out of the main event seems like a risky business model for the WWE barring a Reigns heel turn.
The company has come so far with their plans already and even if there appears to be slight trepidation, the WWE is paying Lesnar big money to look like a beast before falling to the next big star. Reigns has the look the WWE wants while Bryan has the skill the WWE Universe wants.
Though there is possibility the WWE flips the script like last year, they likely only set up this No. 1 contender's match scenario as a way to generate interest for an otherwise bland Fast Lane pay-per-view sandwiched between two of the most exciting events of the year.
Reigns vs. Lesnar will likely still go on as planned while Bryan's Twitter campaign with Ziggler will lead to a match between the two at WrestleMania 31, which will undoubtedly steal the show.
2) Sting vs. Triple H: The WWE has made it obvious that this match will happen and it pretty much goes without saying based on the current storylines.
Sting got involved in the Team Authority vs. Team Cena match at Survivor Series in November and then provided a distraction that enabled John Cena to roll up and pin Seth Rollins to earn back the jobs of Ziggler, Ryback and Erick Rowan last month on RAW.
That is twice now that "The Vigilante" has drawn the ire of "The Game" and it will now lead to a showdown at Fast Lane as Triple H has challenged Sting to a face-to-face meeting on Feb. 22 at the FedEx Forum in Memphis.
This will likely lead to a challenge being laid down for Sting to make his WWE debut in what may be the final match of his career against Triple H at WrestleMania 31.
3) The Undertaker vs. Bray Wyatt: After months of doubt and rumors looming over 'Taker's participation in this year's big event, Wyatt's eerie promos on RAW and SmackDown seem to lean toward a match with the "Deadman" at the biggest show of 2015.
Wyatt has been on-fire in his promos, promising to take the smile from the collective faces of the WWE Universe by tearing apart their nostalgia and what they love. 'Taker is a nostalgic WWE figure and Wyatt saying he doesn't fear anything "living or dead" lays credence to the fact he will face 'Taker.
The WWE has a chance for some great magic between these two mystical figures next month in California and it appears as though the "Eater of Worlds" is in for a clash with one of the most epic competitors in wrestling history at the "Show of Shows."
One can only wonder how much more intrigue would be placed on this match if the WWE had saved 'Taker's undefeated streak for an epic clash with an anti-hero like Wyatt rather than feeding him to a part-time beast last year.
4) Seth Rollins vs. Randy Orton: It doesn't seem like there are too many big plans for Rollins regarding the big picture at WrestleMania, which is a bit of a shame because he has been the top heel in Lesnar's absence.
That doesn't mean a cash-in attempt won't be looming for the first time ever on the grandest stage in the WWE.
Rollins and Orton have had their fair share of problems and "Mr. Money in the Bank's" subtle allusion to Orton on last night's broadcast means "The Viper" should be returning for vengeance soon.
Last time Orton was seen on WWE T.V., Rollins, Triple H and Kane were laying him out. Orton has reportedly been set to return, but the WWE has waited to pull the trigger on his comeback thus far.
Orton will likely come back and take up his issues with Rollins, leading to a clash between them at WrestleMania 31.
While Rollins won't factor into the main event this year, a match with a seasoned veteran like Orton could go a long way in continuing his upward progression in the WWE ranks.
5) WWE Intercontinental Championship: Dean Ambrose vs. Bad News Barrett (c): The WWE started to lay the foundation for this match this week on Monday Night RAW with Ambrose calling out Barrett and while this could happen at Fast Lane, it should be saved for the biggest stage.
Barrett has turned down Ambrose's challenge for Fast Lane, but they'll likely end up going toe-to-toe there with it spilling over to WrestleMania 31.
"The Lunatic Fringe" has been great on the microphone throughout his young career in the WWE and Barrett could hold his own to make this feud something to care about in a midcard where too many guys have floundered in recent years.
The Intercontinental Championship has lost its prestige over the years, especially when it wasn't defended at WrestleMania from 2003-2008, so a long-term feud for the gold starting at the biggest show of the year could be just what this title needs.
WWE WrestleMania 31 takes place live from Levi's Stadium in California on Sunday, March 29.
