When done correctly, the Whirlybird is an amazing wakeboarding trick, but some attempts go incredibly wrong.
One wakeboarder attempted to complete the Whirlybird to some painful looking results and ended up on the internet so that his failure could become the viewer's joy.
Wakeboardingmag.com was back with another installment of their Monday Mishap series and it depicted a wakeboarder attempting to complete the trick.
For those that don't know, a Whirlybird combines a flip and a smooth-looking spin. Wakeboarder.com defines it as a Tantrum with a Backside 360 where the performer keeps the handle over their head while completing the trick.
This particular wakeboarder started out fine as he ascended into the air to begin the trick, but after he completed the spin, he fell flat on his face into the water, landing hard on top of a wave.

The video is a bit sadistic as it repeatedly shows the wakeboarder hitting the water hard face-first in slow motion.
The wakeboarder didn't quite stick the landing and ended up going under the water.
While this wakeboarder wasn't able to fully display the neat trick, the person in this video was successfully able to stick the landing, showing just how cool the trick is when completed:
Once one masters the whirlybird, they can move on to the tougher Whirlybird 540 and the Whirlybird 720.
It appears as though the guy in the first video won't be advancing anytime soon.
