Tiger Woods was looking forward to the 2015 season, and he was all smiles earlier this week when he spoke with the media (and that despite having a tooth knocked out a week ago). After today, he probably is in a little bit of a worse mood.

Tiger is playing in the Phoenix Open this weekend, and he opened with an unspectacular round yesterday, when he shot two-over par. He was undoubtedly hoping to turn things around in today's round. Instead, the wheels just completely came off for Woods.

According to ESPN, Woods had a few birdie chances early in the round on Friday, but he failed to capitalize. He struggled with accuracy off the tee, and his short game was nowhere to be found. On the back nine, Woods shot 44, which matched his worst nine-hole score ever on the PGA Tour.

Woods threatened to shoot 80 for just the second time in his career, although he narrowly avoided that fate, scoring a 79. He finished the round at 10-over for the tournament, and he will certainly miss the cut. It will be just the 13th time in his career that Woods failed to make the cut at an event.

He seemed okay after yesterday's round, particularly after speaking with reporters. "Physically I'm fine," he said. "I feel great. Mentally I'm a little bit tired from the grind of trying to piece together a round."

The event was Woods' first of 2015, and while he surely expected some rust, this turned out to be basically a disaster. He will try to right the ship ahead of next week's Farmer's Insurance Open at Torrey Pines, where he has won eight times.
