Florida head coach Jim McElwain said he wanted to beat out Miami and FSU to win the recruiting battle in the program's home state of Florida.

McElwain Wants To Out-Recruit Other Florida Schools In Their Home State

With next week's National Signing Day finally upon us, we'll get a glimpse of how well McElwain set about accomplishing that goal.

The college sports site 24/7 has the Gators' current class ranked 77th, which is a respectable but not world-beating number. However, there's still time for McElwain and co. to improve that number.

Florida Hoping To Land A Blue Chip QB Recruit

According to The Sports Quotient, the Gators staff is staying close to home and targeting four high school players for an all out recruiting blitz this weekend. They include:

Martez Ivey, the number one ranked offensive lineman in the country.

Byron Cowart, a defensive end who was originally recruited by fired head coach Will Muschamp, and who thus may follow Muschamp to Auburn.

CeCe Jefferson, another defensive end who is currently choosing between Ole Miss and Florida.

Jordan Cronkite, a Miami-based running back who decommitted from the Hurricanes and who is now said to be Gainesville's to lose.

Just landing even one of these four blue chippers would be a major haul for the Gators. If McElwain can land two or more of them, well, that'd be a coup. The results, disappointing or exciting, will speak for themselves next week.
