Bears Trade Gabe Carimi To Bucs

The Chicago Bears have dealt former first-round draft pick Gabe Carimi to the Tampa Bay Buccaneerss, contingent on the oft-injured linemen passing a physical.

As compensation, reportedly the Bears are slated to receive a sixth-round draft pick in 2014, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Carimi, 24, thus leaves Chicago having never quite lived up to the high expectations the team was held for him. The Bears drafted the 6-foot-7, 315 pound lineman out of Wisconsin with the 29th pick in the 2011 draft. As a rookie, he started his two games before suffering a season-ending knee injury that also thought to have slowed his production last season.

After starting the first 10 games of 2012 at right tackle, Carimi was demoted and replaced by Jonathan Scott. The Bears signed lineman Jermon Bushrod and tabbed Kyle Long with their top draft selection this season, paving the way for Carimi’s expected exit.

Carimi also didn’t endure himself to new coach Marc Trestman when he elected to skip out on at least 10 voluntary OTAs this offseason and work out on his own in Arizona.

With star quarterback Jay Cutler among the most sacked in the entire league the last two seasons, the Bears placed a premium on continuity along their line this off season in hopes of keeping him health for an entire season.
