Two popular athletes with something to prove during their upcoming seasons are set to square off in a head-to-head battle.

Sort of.

Kurt Warner impressed with Colin Kaepernick chalkboard knowledge, but has to transfer it to the field

Bizjournals.com reported that golfer Tiger Woods has signed a deal with SOL Republic, a headphones and speakers designer based in San Francisco.

SOL Republic said in a press release that it will work with Woods, arguably the world's most recognizable golfer, now that he replaced his missing tooth, anyway, on bringing audio products into the market in the coming months, according to bizjournals.com.

Charles Barkley still talking about lost Tiger Woods friendship five years later

The company is looking to compete against Beats LLC Electronics and its signature Beats by Dre headphone, which San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick serves as a spokesman.

Two years ago, the endorsement war would've been a matchup made in marketing heaven. Woods won five events in 2013 - although none were majors - and reclaimed the No. 1 ranking in the golf world.

Kaepernick, who took over as starter of the 49ers midway through the 2012 season, led the team to Super Bowl XLVII and was possibly a late pass interference call away from winning that Super Bowl.

Now, both are under the microscope while trying to resurrect their careers. Woods missed the majority of 2014 with a back injury and was largely ineffective when he did play. Kaepernick slumped to the worst passer rating of his career as the 49ers missed the playoffs for the first time in his three years as the team's starter.

Fortunately for both headphones companies, Woods and Kaepernick aren't the only spokesmen for their products.

Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, the record-holder with 18 gold medals and 22 medals overall, also has signed with SOL Republic. Beats by Dre also has Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman in its corner.

SOL Republic did not disclose a value of Woods' contract, bizjournals.com reported.
