Dennis Rodman Says LeBron Would Be "Average" 80s, 90s Era Player

Original NBA “Bad Boy” Dennis Rodman doesn’t seemed convinced two-time reigning league MVP LeBron James could handle the pressure of starring during his era.

Rodman told Sports Illustrated “If LeBron way playing in the late 80s and early 90s, he’d just be an average player. If Michael (Jordan) played today… really. If he played the game today at 28 years-old, he would average 40 points a game, probably more.”

Playing alongside Isiah Thomas and Joe Dumars in Detroit and later Jordan and Scottie Pippen in Chicago, Rodman won five NBA titles during the era he speaks of and was widely considered among the league’s best defenders and most hard-nosed competitors.

“Look at those teams,” he again told SI of his era. Look at the Cleveland Cavaliers. Look at Golden State when they had Chris Webber and all those guys. If those teams then could play now, they would kick anybody’s a-- today. Are you kidding me?”

Rodman was willing to make one concession when it comes to James and his Miami Heat.  “The Heat has better talent than we had, but we had smarter players,” he said. “We would match up with the Heat easy. I would take Bosh out of his damn game easy. That’s not even a problem. How would Dwyane Wade match up with Scottie Pippen? Really? Scottie Pippen would guard LeBron easy. How are you going to cover Jordan and Pippen?”
