Recap: It took extra time, but Chelsea managed to defeat Liverpool 1-0 on Tuesday.
An enthralling 45 minutes saw Liverpool create the lion’s share of scoring chances, but both sides entered the half scoreless. More of the same followed after the break. With away goals not counting until the initial 210 minutes have been played, the match proceeded to extra time. It’s there that Chelsea earned their break. A clinical header from Branislav Ivanovic buried the visitors.
With the 2-1 aggregate victory, Chelsea advances to the cup final at Wembley.
Key Moment: Liverpool had their equalizer in the first 10 minutes of extra time, with Jordan Henderson beating Cesar Azpilicueta to the ball. Unfortunately for the 24-year-old, his free header landed well wide of the post.
Man of the Match: Willian was a 1v1 nightmare for a majority of the contest. The 26-year-old finishd with an assist, seven take-ons and five tackles.
Chelsea felt hard done by the ref, while Liverpool created more chances. First Half higlights. #beINCapitalOne https://t.co/hhPOwTDfNG

Lesson Learned: Liverpool are not devoid of chances, they’re devoid of finishers. Despite outperforming Chelsea for a majority of the tie, the Reds only managed to beat Thibaut Courtois once over 210 minutes of play. Credit to Brendan Rodgers for showing tactical flexibility, adopting a 3-4-2-1 system. But without Daniel Sturridge to spearhead it, Liverpool’s beautiful, expansive football will not be rewarded with proper results.
Up Next: Both clubs return to league action on Jan. 31, with Liverpool hosting West Ham and Chelsea battling Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.
