The Philadelphia Eagles missed the playoffs this season despite winning 10 games, and many around the league think that the team was let down by its quarterback play. Nick Foles regressed after a stellar 2013 season, and Mark Sanchez underwhelmed after taking over the starting job when Foles went down with injury.

Shady McCoy Hopes Eagles Don't Trade Up For Mariota

Recently, rumors have been swirling that the Eagles are interested in trading up to draft Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota, who won the Heisman Trophy this season. Philadelphia head coach recruited Mariota to Oregon, and he coached him briefly before leaving the school to join the professional ranks.

The buzz surrounding a possible trade up for Mariota has other teams wondering if the Eagles would be willing to trade Nick Foles, according to NJ.com. If the team does move on Mariota, then it would certainly seem to make Foles expendable, but they may elect to hang on to Foles in the event that they cannot draft the Oregon star. Mariota could go as high as first overall, and it is unclear whether Philadelphia is willing to give up enough to trade up that high in the draft.

If the team does decide to trade Foles, the St. Louis Rams will be among the teams that try to get him. The team is believed to have strong interest in Foles after suffering through the Sam Bradford era. The Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans would also reportedly have interest in Foles.

Foles has thrown 46 touchdowns and only 17 interceptions since entering the league, although most of that work was during 2013, when he threw 27 touchdowns against just two picks. Still, many around the league think he has what it takes to be an NFL starter.

"Love him," one NFL coach said of Foles. "Right now I would put him in the second or third tier of quarterbacks, but I think he is right on the cusp of being in the top tier at the position."

Even after Foles regressed in 2014, people still believe in him. "A dropoff was expected," said an NFC scout. "I wouldn't be too concerned if I was Chip (Kelly). I think he'll be fine."
