A report on the impetus for the breakup between soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo and supermodel/actress Irina Shayk replaced one relationship-trouble stereotype - the in-laws - for another - infidelity.

The New York Post's Page Six reported that it uncovered the reason for the split between the power couple after five years, originally attributed to Shayk not attending the 60th birthday celebration for Ronaldo's mother, instead was due to Shayk's unwavering suspicions that Ronaldo was cheating on her.

"We're told Shayk, whose rep confirmed the split to Page Six last week, was told by numerous sources that Real Madrid star Ronaldo had affairs during their five-year, long-distance relationship, which led to her calling it off around New Year's Eve," the publication reported.

Among the women rumored to have had trysts with the Portuguese national team leader are Rita Pereira, a Portuguese TV presenter and Playboy model, and Brazilian model Andressa Urach, a runner-up for what Page Six called "the esteemed title of 'Miss BumBum' in the country's annual beautiful-bottom contest."

Urach claimed she slept with Ronaldo in 2013 in a hotel in Madrid.

Page Six also noted in July that Ronaldo was spotted partying with former New York Knick and current Cleveland Cavalier J.R. Smith in Las Vegas with scantily clad women instead of attending Shayk's Hollywood premiere of her movie, "Hercules" with Dwyane "The Rock" Johnson.

No reason was given as to what prompted Shayk to believe that the rumors of Ronaldo's infidelity were true now or why she called it quits now.

While the news is sad for both camps after five years, neither figures to be in any danger of being without companionship if they don't want to be.
