Robert Griffin III now insists Donovan McNabb never privately reached out to him as a mentor as he alleged earlier this week.
The former NFL star quarterback and current radio host recently told the Washington Post he wants Griffin III to succeed but feared he was now "doing too much and drawing too much attention to himself."
"It's too much right now," McNabb told The Post. "I get some of things he's doing to draw attention, the Adidas commercials, going out and enjoying the life of a young man. But if you're coming off anterior cruciate ligament surgery, you don't need to having a press conference at organized team activities. It becomes a circus, a sideshow."
But late Thursday, The NFL Network's Albert Breer tweeted that Griffin III now maintains McNabb never approached or reached out to him.
The tale doesn't end there, as McNabb has also been critical of RGIII's dad's recent decision to question how his son is being featured in the Redskins offense.
"One thing Andy Reid did is he never let the injured guys become the story if they were off to the side at practice," McNabb told The Sporting News. "He thought it took away from the guys who were grinding and practicing every day.
McNabb asserted his biggest fear for Griffin III is that fans and media may come to expect too much from him following such a major injury.
