The Washington Nationals landed the biggest prize in free agency this offseason when they signed Max Scherzer last weekend. Since then, speculation has heated up that they will look to move one of their other pitchers.

Shields' Salary Demands Too High?

There have been rumors for much of the offseason that the team will look to move Jordan Zimmermann, and one of the teams that was reportedly interested in the young ace was the Boston Red Sox. However, it now appears that Boston may have interest in another Nationals pitcher.

The Nationals recently avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal with Stephen Strasburg, but rumors have emerged that the team may look to move him. According to the Inquisitr, Boston is on the list of potential destinations.

Phillies Want Too Much For Hamels?

Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington has said that the team is content with its rotation for 2015, but the addition of an elite starter would undoubtedly make the team a top playoff contender.

The Nationals were reportedly quietly shopping Strasburg even before they inked Scherzer.

"If the Nationals want to part with Strasburg the best teams in baseball will be calling or have already spent plenty of time talking to general manager Mike Rizzo. The Boston Red Sox are an obvious fit, because of their ability to take on Strasburg's salary as well as their offensive depth," wrote MassLive.com Red Sox correspondent Jason Mastrodonato.

The Red Sox still have a bevy of extra hitters that they can include in any trade, and they have a well-stocked farm system that features many prize prospects.

All in all, it still looks like Zimmermann - or possibly Doug Fister - is the most likely Washington pitcher to be traded, but regardless of who they want to deal, Boston is a logical trading partner.
