Larry Bird, Sacramento Kings' New Management Talk Front Office Role, Possible Partial Ownership Deal

NBA legend Larry Bird is reported to be meeting with the Sacramento Kings about a possible role in the franchise's front office that could include partial ownership.

According to ProBasketballTalk.com, Bird is slated to meet with new owner Vivek Ranadive later this week about becoming team president. According to web site, Bird is seeking a salary of at least $5 million annually and partial ownership as part of any deal.

Bird is credited with building the foundation of the Indiana Pacers team that just forced the defending champ Miami Heat into a Game 7 in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals. He later stepped down for health reasons.

Bird made a name for himself during an illustrious 13 season career with the Boston Celtics during which he earned three NBA championships and two NBA Finals MVP awards. He retired in 1992 after experiencing lingering back problems, but not before he starred on the 1992 Dream Team that won gold in the Summer Olympics. The team is routinely feted as the best pro squad ever assembled.

Bird was also voted to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and in 1996 was officially tabbed as a Naismath Hall of Famer. Before taking over as president of basketball operations in the Pacers front office, he served as coach from 1997 to 2000. Bird is also the only player in NBA history to be named most valuable player, coach of the year and executive of the year.
