Just when the mercurial Hope Solo finally had gained some sympathy for an acquittal on a domestic violence charge, she's back in the news over another negative incident.

TMZ Sports reported Tuesday that Solo was a passenger in a vehicle in which husband Jerramy Stevens was arrested for DUI in Los Angeles.

Hope Solo cleared of assault against her half-sister and nephew that took place over the summer

The 35-year-old Stevens, a former NFL tight end, was initially pulled over around 1:49 a.m. Monday morning because he was driving with his headlights off. According to TMZ Sports, Stevens refused to take a breath test, so police obtained a warrant to take him to get a blood test at a nearby hospital.

Police arrested Stevens on suspicion of DUI, Huffington Post reported.

Hope Solo was the victim, not the instigator in family assault case, her lawyer says

"Based on the conversations and the observations the officer had with Mr. Stevens, he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence," police spokeswoman Stephanie Martin said. "The toxicology results will either confirm or deny that and to what degree."

But Solo, whose domestic violence charges against her nephew and half-sister that stemmed from an incident at her sister's home in June, was "acting belligerent" toward the police, TMZ Sports reported.

'"One source says 'they were a major pain" ... and cops were close to arresting Solo for disorderly conduct," TMZ Sports stated. "We're told both Solo and Stevens were trying to play the dreaded, 'Don't you know who we are?' card."

The police report concerning the incident between Solo and her sister and nephew stated that Solo "appeared intoxicated and upset" and that she was the "primary aggressor" in an altercation in which her nephew and half-sister had visual injuries."

That case was dismissed after Solo's lawyer, Todd Maybrown, successfully argued that her family members refused to be deposed.

The personality of the outspoken Solo first became public in September of 2007 when the goalkeeper was benched for a World Cup game against Brazil in favor of 1999 U.S. Women's Cup champion goalkeeper Briana Scurry.

Brazil defeated the U.S. 4-0, prompting Solo to say to the media afterward, "It was the wrong decision, and I think anybody that knows anything about the game knows that."

In 2012, she married Stevens despite the fact that he was accused of domestic violence against her.
