Chelsea , Mourinho Reunite: Special One Agrees To Four Year Contract

The "Special One," Jose Mourinho, has returned to Chelsea on a four-year deal, ending rampant speculation that has persisted for weeks.

Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay made the huge news official via statement, in which he said, "I am delighted to welcome Jose back to Chelsea. His continued success, drive and ambition made him the outstanding candidate. "It is our aim to keep the club moving forward to achieve greater success in the future, and Jose is our number one choice as we believe he is the right manager to do just that. He was and remains a hugely popular figure at the club and everyone here looks forward to working with him again."

Mourinho first became part of Chelsea in June 2004, after giving himself the "Special One" nickname following a title run with FC Porto. While with Chelsea, Mourinho could not bring them a Champions League title, but he did earn two English Premier League championships. Before Mourinho, Chelsea's last EPL title had come in 1955.

His first run with Chelsea ended in 2007 after clashes with ownership; he went on to coach Inter Milan and led them to two straight Serie A titles. From there he moved on to Real Madrid, where he captured one La Liga title, but could not reach his goal of a Champions League Crown. Chelsea fell in the semifinals three times under Mourinho, and his relationship with several players, namely Iker Casillas, badly soured.

In a statement on Friday, the vociferous Mourinho took the high road upon his exit, saying, "I wish everyone associated with Real Madrid much happiness in the future. I appreciate the support of lots of fans and respect the criticism of others. Once again, a lot of happiness to everyone and, above all, good health. Hala Madrid!"
