Daniel Bryan made his return to the squared circle on SmackDown this week and he recently opened up about his comeback and what WWE management told him upon his comeback.

Bryan spoke with The Miami Herald and talked about the WWE's officials asking him to tone down his in-ring style due to him coming off of major neck surgery that caused him to miss most of 2014.

"They've told me, 'Hey, maybe you shouldn't be doing the diving head-butt or this or that.' I have always marched to the beat of my own drum," Bryan said. "We are all individual entities. Not to say I ignore their advice, but you also have to know your own body and where you're at physically. Part of the thing about coming back is it's a trial-and-error. If I started doing the top-rope dropkick and notice it jarred me, then it may be something I stay away from. I won't know until I try. I'm not afraid to go out there and give it my all."

Rusev To Cost John Cena Match At Royal Rumble To Set Up WrestleMania Bout?

Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania XXX last April, but was forced to forfeit the gold in mid-May due to the neck surgery.

Following the procedure, Bryan lost feeling in his right arm and was uncertain if he'd need a second operation or if his career would be over.

Bryan announced a few weeks ago on Monday Night RAW that he would return at the Royal Rumble in the 30-man over-the-top-rope match. The WWE opted to have him wrestle on SmackDown in its big return to Thursdays this week as a tune-up.

Bryan was asked if it would have made more of an impact for him to return as a surprise entrant in the big match with a chance to go to WrestleMania 31 and wrestle for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line.

"Had I just come out during the Royal Rumble, I don't know if it would be as impactful," Bryan said. "To me it's more impactful to give fans something to look forward to. If it happened at the Royal Rumble and that night, it would have been great. Though I like the idea of building toward something, so I'm happy with the way we've done it."

Lastly, Bryan who wrestled Kane on Thursday's SmackDown and then participated in the main event by teaming with Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose to top Kane, The Big Show and Seth Rollins, said the day he was cleared to wrestle was the day he made the announcement.

"The day I announced I was coming back for the Royal Rumble is actually the day I got cleared to wrestle," he said. "I started healing in November, as far as thinking, 'Wait a second. Things are starting to turn around for the better.' It was that December episode of RAW I went on to say I was finally able to be cleared by WWE where they said, 'You're ready to go.'"
