Lauren Hill's fight against an inoperable brain tumor continues to inspire a nation. So much so, that one DC politician recently took time to publicly honor Hill on the floor of Congress during a recent speech.

Lauren Hill Retires, Becomes Honorary Coach

Luke Messer, a Republican representative from the state of Indiana, shared Hill's story with his colleagues. Hill has become a heroic figure for both fulfilling her dream of playing -- and scoring! -- in a college basketball game, and for her success off-the-court in raising awareness about her condition, known as diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma. So far her foundation has helped raise $1 million towards finding a cure.

“I commend Lauren for her continued courage and applaud the steps she's taken to find a cure for pediatric brain cancer," Messer said. “Lauren, you make your community, state and your country proud.”

Hill scored 10 points in her college career before her condition worsened, forcing her retirement. Since retiring Hill was named an honorary coach and continued to be a public presence in her community. She has since entered hospice care.
