Report: Titus Young Declined League's Offers Of Assistance

Before embarking on the current crime spree that now has him being held in a California jail, troubled former NFL receiver Titus Young repeatedly declined the league’s offer to help him get counseling, according to Yahoo!Sports.

The web site reports as far back as 18-months ago league officials offered to aid Young in getting professional help, but he flatly turned them down. NFL Director of Player Engagement Troy Vincent confirmed the reports to Yahoo!

“We were told he was not interested in support,” Vincent told Yahoo!  “We went to people very close to his center of influence, to reach out to see how we can support him. The response was of someone who is not open arms to being supported.”

Young remains jailed on 11 charges ranging from burglary to assaulting officers and faces up to 10 years in prison. His family has been adamant in reaching out to the league for assistance.

“We can reach out, which we have done,” said Vincent. “We look to assist and support – to get him on track. We’ve reached out. We have been reaching out prior to his last incident. We’ve been working hard for quite some time in this situation. Everything is available to him.”

“We will be on call to support,” he added. “That’s all we can do. We are here. We are on call. Our support team is here for you. Unless he engages back, all we can do is sit and be on call.”
