There's a long-standing rumor in major league baseball and media circles that Hall of Fame third baseman Wade Boggs once drank 64 beers on a cross-country flight.

It's such a famous anecdote that Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon of ESPN's Pardon the Interruption once asked Boggs to his face if that figure was a true statistic. Boggs, a good sport, responded that he "didn't need to divulge the number, but let's saying it was a few Miller Lites."

Well, apparently after all this time Wade Boggs has finally divulged the number, and it is a little farther north than even 64. Okay, a lot farther north.

Charlie Day of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia was a guest on The Tonight Show Monday night, and he spilled the beans about Boggs' wooden leg to host Jimmy Fallon. Boggs guest starred on the season premiere of the show and spoke to Day about the urban legend surrounding him.

“He was famous for baseball, he was also famous for the number of beers he could drink,” Day said. “Supposedly, when they would have these cross county flights he would drink on average 40 to 50, some say 70 beers.

“He told me that the actual number … he pulled me aside and said ‘Charlie, really, it was 107.'”

Boggs is a Hall of Famer in more ways than one.
