5 Best 30-Man Royal Rumble Matches Ever

Known for his flashy personality and savvy work inside the ring, many fans have clamored for Savage to get into the Hall of Fame over the years. Savage will finally get that honor, but it will unfortunately be posthumously as he passed away in 2011 after suffering a sudden heart attack while driving with his wife.

In honor of Savage being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Sports World News will take a look back at his five finest moments in the squared circle.

5) Savage Climbs The WCW Mountain: After years with the WWE, Savage bolted for chief rival WCW in 1994 and looked to make a name for himself in Ted Turner's organization. Savage won his first ever WCW World Heavyweight Championship at World War 3 in 1995, which was the inaugural event of that franchise. Savage won the first ever 60-man battle royal to win the vacant gold.

4) Savage and Steamboat Steal the Show: While Savage came up on the losing end in his WrestleMania III bout with Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat for the Intercontinental Championship, it is heralded as one of the greatest matches of all-time. The two fought in a meticulously planned out match and put on a five-star battle in front of an alleged over 93,000 fans in the Pontiac Silverdome in Michigan. Savage, portraying a heel at the time, went toe-to-toe with Steamboat and the two matched each other move-for-move for nearly 15 minutes in front of a raucous crowd. In the end, Steamboat stood tall, but it was yet another great match in the career of Savage. The bout is regarded as a classic and still holds up as one of the greatest matches ever nearly three decades later.

3) A Flair for Victory: As WrestleMania VIII rolled around in 1992, Savage was once again a babyface and engaged in a war with "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair. Flair, the WWE Champion, had made several claims of having an affair with Savage's manager and wife Miss Elizabeth. Savage was out for blood when the two engaged in a solid bout at WrestleMania VIII that was once again meticulously planned out to add as much drama as possible. In the end, Savage defeated Flair in a fantastic contest to win his second and final WWE Championship.

2) An Ultimate Reunion: As WrestleMania VII came around, Savage had once again become a heel under the "Macho King" moniker with Queen Sensational Sherri as his manager. After Savage cost The Ultimate Warrior his WWE Championship against Sgt. Slaughter at the Royal Rumble in 1991, the two battled in a career-ending match at WrestleMania VII. The clash was an epic affair which is highly regarded as The Warrior's best match, but what happened afterward was even better. After Sherri turned on Savage following him losing the match and subsequently his career, Savage and Elizabeth reunited with him in what was an emotional moment that had the crowd on the edge of their collective seats.

Honorable Mention: Savage and Elizabeth, who were married in real life already, had a wedding dubbed as the "Match Made in Heaven" at SummerSlam 1991.

1) Savage Wins the Big One: It took four victories in one night for Savage to win his first WWE Championship and he did it in impressive fashion. With the WWE Championship vacant due to the "Million Dollar" Man Ted Dibiase trying to purchase it from Andre the Giant after a controversial victory over Hulk Hogan on The Main Event in 1988, a 14-man tournament was announced to crown a new undisputed champion. While many people believed it would be Hogan's night, he and Andre fought to a draw in the opening bout of the second round, paving the way for a new champion to be crowned. Savage, who came out with a different color scheme that Elizabeth matched each round, defeated "The Natural" Butch Reed, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine and The One Man Gang en route to making it to the finals, where he met up with Dibiase. With a little help from Hogan, Savage thwarted off Dibiase and won his first WWE Championship, etching himself in WWE lore. Savage would go on to hold the title for over a year.

Savage unquestionably had an amazing career in professional wrestling and he is a legend that will never be forgotten. On March 28 in California, the charismatic Superstar will finally take his place in the WWE Hall of Fame.
