Baltimore and New England have developed one of the NFL's better rivalries, and despite the Pats having three-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady throwing the passes for them Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco strikes fear in the hearts of any opponent.
Flacco is no outstanding regular season quarterback, but under the bright postseason lights Flacco has shined. Flacco carries a 10-4 playoffs record into this matchup, and he's thrown 21 touchdowns against just eight interceptions. In his last two postseason meetings with the Patriots Flacco's tossed five touchdown passes and just one interception.
Familiarity goes two ways, however, and Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels believes his high-powered offense will be able to do damage against the Ravens D as well.
"There's experience against this team," McDaniels said. "We know a lot of their players and some of their schemes, but I think each time we've played them our team has been different, their team has been different."
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh thinks the multiple postseason clashes don't mean a thing.
"I don't think it really matters," he told the team's official website. "It's a new game. Really, the past, the future, it's just whoever plays best Saturday afternoon is going to be the team that wins the game."
