Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott has tried all kinds of motivational ploys for his team this season, and he resorted to calling them soft earlier this week. In the wake of the comments, Scott has said that he stands by his decree.

Andrew Wiggins Finally Looking Like #1 Draft Pick

Scott's comments came after a 25-point loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. According to ESPN, the players were unsure whether he actually thought they were soft. "I don't think he meant it literally," said Ronnie Price after practice on Thursday. "He was probably just trying to give us motivation."

Scott insists that he did mean what he said. "I was angry," Scott said. "It had nothing to do with motivation at all. I just wanted to tell them how I felt and how I thought that the Clippers viewed us as a basketball team. I was just being totally honest with the way that I was looking at the game and the way I thought they were playing against us. I wasn't trying to motivate them at all. I was just telling the truth."

Kobe Not Shooting Enough?

Scott went on to say that he thought being called "soft" was the worst insult a team could receive.

"It's almost like walking up to another man and slapping him. It really is," said Scott. "But like I said, I'm not pulling punches. I told them exactly how I felt at halftime. At the end of the game, I didn't say anything. I just told them, come in and I'll see you [Thursday] morning."
