Tonight at 8:00 p.m. the Chicago Bulls (25-11) and Washington Wizards (24-11) will square off in a battle of Southeast division powers trying to keep up with the torrid pace of the Atlanta Hawks. This game features a matchup of All-Star point guards, Derrick Rose of the Bulls and John Wall of the Wizards, both of whom were molded for one season in college by John Calipari. Wall has had the upper hand on Rose this season, as the Bulls' former MVP is in the midst of a terrible cold streak.
Rose has shot 25.5 percent from the field over his last six games, and averaged just 12.7 points over that span. The Bulls have weathered it nicely, taking four out of the six, but Rose hit a low point in Chicago's most recent tilt, a 20-point drubbing vs. the Jazz.
"We just wasn't making any shots; I know I wasn't making any shots," Rose said after a woeful 3-of-15 showing. "Losing the way we did, it hurt."
Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau is preaching calm while Rose works through the worst slump of his career.
"When you get away from that competition for 2 1/2 years, it doesn't come back in a week," Thibodeau said. "You have to compete in practice, you have to compete getting yourself ready and you have to keep going."
When Rose and Wall are both healthy the Wizards are 0-5 in those matchups, but tonight should see the return of veteran swingman Paul Pierce for Washington.
