Trayvon Martin News: George Zimmerman Defense Claims To Be Out Of Resources

One day after a Florida judge denied his request for a trial delay, attorneys for George Zimmerman now contend a fund set up for him to help defray legal costs has run out of money, according to Yahoo!

Though the fund had as much as $315,000 in cash as recently as just three months ago, attorneys now contend it holds less than $5,000., Yahoo! reported.  Zimmerman is set to face trial beginning June 10 in the shooting death of 16-yearold teen Trayvon Martin.

Martin was gunned down as he walked home from a convenience store, only to be confronted by Zimmerman, a self-appointed neighborhood watch patrolman in the gated Sanford community who later told police he thought the unarmed teen looked suspicious.

After a brief struggle, Martin was shot once in the chest area and died at the scene. Zimmerman has since been charged with second-degree murder, though he and his attorneys maintain self- defense and have pled not guilty.

Defense attorneys Mark O’Mara and Don West now contend their client needs at least another $120,000 in funding just to put on a good defense.  They insist they will need the money in the coming weeks to pay experts and for transcripts of depositions.

On the night he was shot, Martin was watching the NBA All-Star Game with his younger brother and had only briefly left the house to walk to the corner store.
