The New York Knicks have been a train wreck this season, and now rumors are swirling that they may lose their best player for the rest of the year. Carmelo Anthony has dealt with pain in his knee for most of the season, and some are beginning to wonder if he will put himself on the shelf for the rest of the season since the Knicks have no chance at contending anyway.

Knicks Targeting Marc Gasol

According to ESPN, Anthony has no such plans... for now. "I'm all right," Anthony said. "I'm not shutting it down for the season yet. I'm just trying to take some time to get it right." Anthony has missed three straight games with soreness in the knee.

According to Anthony, he cannot make the injury worse by playing on it, but it also will not heal unless he takes time off to give his knee the rest it needs. Knicks coach Derek Fisher has admitted that shutting Anthony down for the season so that he could heal may eventually be in the best interest of both the player and the franchise.

Joel Embiid Trolls LeBron

The Knicks have lost 12 straight games and 22 of their previous 23. They are 5-32 on the season, which is the worst record in the league, and they sit four games in the loss column behind the Philadelphia 76ers, who are making every effort to lose as many games as possible this season.

On Monday, the Knicks started making moves with an eye toward the future, as they traded away J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert and waived Samuel Dalembert. The moves were made to save the Knicks money and to clear cap space to sign free agents this offseason.

"I know there's a lot of fans out there that's kind of upset or kind of down on the team, kind of down on the players right now, kind of down on the situation," said Anthony. "But I will say that it [gets] greater later, just be patient with the team, with the organization, with the journey, with the plan, with what we're trying to create, what we're trying to accomplish.

"Greatness don't happen overnight, and that's something that we're trying to build here."
