Only days after boasting he feels he could be ready for the season-opener without playing a single pre-season down, Washington Redskins star quarterback Robert Griffin III is now insisting longtime rival Dallas Cowboys fans should also be rooting for his speedy recovery.
According to TMZ.com, Griffin III intimated to reporters he feels that is simply as it should and that believes any team worth its salt would only want to compete against another squad that’s at full strength and not missing one of their top weapons.
Griffin III is still recuperating from a 2012 season ending torn anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments in his right knee. Though his recovery has been described by team officials as nothing short of “unbelievable,” the jury remains out as to if he will at all be available during the preseason.
Appearing at this week’s National Memorial Day parade in Washington, Griffin confirmed earlier statements he made to Sports Illustrated where he pushed the idea of taking his first snaps since the injury in the season opener.
“I would be comfortable with that,” he said. “That’s all I can say. I have no control over whether I play in the preseason or not … I would be comfortable running out of the tunnel at Fed Ex Field with the smoke and everything.”
