Colorado athletic director Mike Bohn has resigned, the Denver Post is reporting.
University of Colorado spokesman Bronson Hilliard confirmed to the newspaper on Tuesday that CU chancellor Phil DiStefano has accepted Bohn's resignation.
No reason was given for the abrupt departure. The Post said Bohn could not be reached for comment.
Bohn, who was born in Hinsdale, Ill., moved with his family to Boulder, Colo., when he was 1-year old. He graduated from Boulder High School in 1979.
He earned his bachelor's degree the University of Kansas in 1983 and a master's degree from Ohio University in 1984.
Bohn because Colorado's athletic director in April 2005 after working in the same capacity at San Diego State for the previous 18 months.
In August 2011, the Denver Post reported, Bohn received a five-year extension from the Board of Regents and the Chancellor that secured him into 2017.
The newspaper, however, also roundly criticized Bohn last December it was reported that he had hired Cincinnati football coach Butch Jones, only to have Jones instead agree to become the new head coach at Tennessee.
Bohn hired San Jose State coach Mike McIntyre instead.
"Despite notable successes on his watch, we said Bohn had botched two head football coaching hires and didn't deserve a fourth opportunity," the Post's editorial said. "Judging from the failed bid to land University of Cincinnati's Butch Jones to lead the Buffs, Bohn has essentially used up his third opportunity."
Those two claimed failures were Embree and Dan Hawkins, according to the newspaper.
To his credit, Bohn oversaw Colorado's move from the Big 12 to the Pac-12 in the summer of 2010.
Details of a news conference still were being worked out, the Post reported.
"I can tell you Mike has resigned as athletic director and that Chancellor DiStefano has accepted his resignation," Hilliard told the newspaper.
