Skip Bayless made headlines and raised eyebrows with his contention on an episode of First Take last week that Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel was an "alcoholic" and a "liar."

"He has a problem – if you want to call him an alcoholic, I’ll go that far," Bayless said. "I think he can’t handle his alcohol."

Manziel Partying in Miami With Girlfriend Colleen Crowley

Although many agree with a basic sentiment that Johnny Manziel is immature and unprofessional in how he goes about being a quarterback in the NFL, most thought Bayless' incendiary comments were a bridge too far.

More than one media member compared them to the September 2014 Bill Simmons-Roger Goodell incident. Simmons called the NFL commissioner a "liar" on his podcast for the latter's handling of the Ray Rice videotape investigation, and was suspended three weeks from ESPN without pay for it.

ESPN Comes Down Hard on Bill Simmons

However, unlike Simmons, Skip Bayless will apparently not be disciplined for his statements.

“When discussing the widely reported public behavior, Skip based his comments on information he has from sources within and around the Browns’ organization with knowledge of Manziel’s continued pattern of behavior, as well as Skip’s personal family experiences with alcoholism,” said ESPN, in a statement obtained by Sports Illustrated.

The Browns quarterback, fresh off of partying in Miami with girlfriend Colleen Crowley and New York Giant Victory Cruz, has repeatedly said he intends to take his job "more seriously" in the offseason.
