Maurice Jones-Drew Knocks Out Bouncer, Charged With Battery

Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Maurice Jones-Drew is facing battery charges after knocking out a nightclub bouncer in Florida.

According to TMZ, the incident took place on May 26 during “Reggaes Sundays” at Conch House Restaurant in nearby St. Augustine. TMZ also reported witnesses told police the dispute was sparked when a friend of Jones-Drew was told to stop touching a female patron. The man than reportedly had words with the guard before touching him in the chest and inciting the brawl.

The bouncer, who TMZ reported goes by the name “Hillbilly” reportedly put Jones-Drew’s pal in a headlock, prompting the 5-7, 210 pound star to react and strike the bouncer.  

After the incident, the bouncer reported the incident to police, who immediately noticed the man’s jaw was badly swollen and he had a large lump on his jaw bone. The man was eventually hospitalized and doctors found more contusions and a bone bruise, but no broken bones.

After suffering a right foot injury, Jones-Drew played in just six games last year, rushing for 414 yards and a touchdown. The year before, Jones-Drew rushed for 1,616 yards and eight touchdowns and also caught 43 passes for 317 yards and another three scores.
