The San Francisco Giants are still trying to add to their roster heading into 2015, and may be adding one of the most versatile players in baseball soon. According to Robert Murray of MLB Daily Rumors, the Giants are looking into acquiring utility player Ben Zobrist from the Tampa Bay Rays.
The #SFGiants are talking to the #Rays about a Ben Zobrist trade, sources tell @CoverThoseBases and me. Unknown if anything is close.

Zobrist's numbers do not jump off the stat page-he hit .272 with 10 home runs and 52 RBI last season-but he is very valuable in other aspects of the game. Per Fangraphs Zobrist was worth 5.7 WAR despite the middling offensive productions, and was worth 14.4 runs defensively.
Zobrist doesn't just excel defensively-he offers value at multiple positions. He logged 625 innings at second base last season for the Rays, 236.1 innings at shortstop, and 358.1 innings between all three outfield positions.
The Giants have some money to burn after losing Pablo Sandoval to the Boston Red Sox this offseason, but so far have made smaller moves to bolster the roster like adding infielder Casey McGehee.
Many of the rumors surrounding San Francisco this year have centered on adding to the starting rotation. They've been linked to Max Scherzer, who won the 2013 AL Cy Young award with the Detroit Tigers, or Cole Hamels, who has been made available for a trade by the Philadelphia Phillies.
