RGIII Says He Doesn't Need Preseason To Be Ready To Play

Washington Redskins star quarterback Robert Griffin III is insisting he could be ready for the start of the NFL season even he doesn’t play a preseason snap, according to The Washington Post.

Griffin III, the 2012 Offensive Rookie of the Year, is still recuperating from torn anterior cruciate and lateral collateral ligaments in his right knee. Though he’s yet to officially participate in any team offseason practices, Griffin has been running and throwing during those outings as part of his rehabilitation process.

Noted orthopedist Dr. James Andrews, who performed Griffin’s surgery, has called his recovery nothing short of “unbelievable and superhuman.” Griffin threw for more than 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns last season, reviving what had been a stagnant Washington franchise.

Coach Mike Shanahan has long insisted that Griffin would need to practice before taking part in a game. And earlier this month, Griffin’s dad hinted that the Coach needs to alter the offense some in order to increase the chances of his son staying healthy.

“I’ve thought about that and yeah, I would be comfortable with that” Griffin told Sports Illustrated of playing without practicing. “That’s all I can say. I have no control over whether I play in the preseason or not. I would be comfortable running out of the tunnel at FedEx Field with the smoke and everything.”
