From the moment the University of Michigan fired Brady Hoke, Jim Harbaugh has been the prohibitive favorite for the Wolverines' head coaching vacancy. The school was known to be enamored with the San Francisco 49ers head coach; it was just a matter of whether or not Harbaugh was interested in leaving the NFL ranks. Michigan's six-year, $48 million dollar offer to him might be enough to do it.

Has Jim Harbaugh Already Secretly Agreed to the Michigan Job?

However, in the event that Harbaugh ultimately turns down his alma mater, the program may have a few other NFL coaches they're interested in courting.

A report from CBS Sports this week claims that the Wolverines may be interested in the Saints' Sean Payton, the Bills' Doug Marrone, and the Cowboys' Jason Garrett as candidates for the position. Even juicier, the school is said to be taking a hard look at Jim's brother, Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, as well.

Of the four coaches, Marrone is the only one to address rumors linking him to the Michigan position (he denied any interest in it).

The Wolverines Want Jim Harbaugh to Have a Happy Birthday

The report includes information from sources said to be close to Harbaugh, indicating that the Niners coach is "far more likely" to remain in the NFL despite the Wolverines lucrative contract offer.
