The Brooklyn Nets have not been nearly as good as they hoped so far this season, and rumors continue to swirl that they could be set to deal away many of their best players before the trade deadline. One such trade appeared to be on the verge of happening this week with the Nets and Sacramento Kings discussing Deron Williams, but now the teams may be shying away from pulling the trigger on the trade.

Signs pointed to the former All-Star being dealt to the Kings, but according to ESPN, that trade may not happen now.

The Kings had recently reached out to the Nets about the possibility of trading for Williams and Mason Plumlee. The Kings were primarily interested in Plumlee, but the front office thought the Nets might be more receptive to the trade if they agreed to take on Williams' onerous contract.

However, Plumlee recently picked up his level of play after he had been struggling. The young forward has averaged 18 points and 10 rebounds per game over the team's previous six contests, and the Nets told the Kings that they had no interest in dealing such a promising player.

With the possibility of getting Plumlee no longer on the table, the Kings have reportedly declined to pursue the trade any further at this time.

The talks are not believed to be completely dead between the two sides, as Sacramento is in the market for a point guard. The team pursued Rajon Rondo before eventually watching him get dealt to the Dallas Mavericks.

League sources believe the Kings will explore other options before rekindling serious talks about Williams, who has a lengthy injury history in addition to a huge contract.
