Tonight at 10 p.m. ET, the NHL Road to the Winter Classic series continues as the Chicago Blackhawks and Washington Capitals prepare for their New Year's Day game that emanates from National's Park in Washington, D.C. The show can be live streamed for free here.
Up to this point, the Blackhawks are 23-9-2 and sit in first place in the Central Division while the Capitals own a are 17-10-6 and own the third and final automatic playoff spot in the Metropolitan Division.
The 2015 game will mark the seventh annual NHL Winter Classic and the second outdoor game under this banner apiece for the Capitals and Blackhawks. Washington defeated the host Pittsburgh Penguins 3-1 in the 2011 edition at Heinz Field while the Blackhawks lost 6-4 to the visiting Detroit Red Wings at Wrigley Field in 2009.
The Capitals bested the Blackhawks in their prior meeting this season as Washington overcame Chicago 3-2 in a shootout at the United Center.
The Blackhawks have been paced by Patrick Kane this season as he has a team-best 36 points off of 16 goals and 20 assists while captain Jonathan Toews has 13 markers and 16 helpers for 29 points.
Niklas Backstrom is on top of the Capitals scoresheet with 36 points off of 11 goals and 25 assists while captain Alex Ovechkin has found the twine 15 times and added 12 assists to rank second on the club with 27 points.
