Las Vegas police are investigating rape allegations leveled against former Major League Baseball star Jose Canseco.
According to TMZ, the 48-year-old retired star is named as a suspect in an incident involving a fitness instructor reported to have taken place on May 10. Officer Bill Cassell said the investigation remains incomplete and no charges or arrest have been made.
Beyond that, details of the incident remain sketchy, but that didn’t stop Canseco from taking to his Twitter page to defend himself.
"[The accuser] told police that I druged [sic] her and then raped her,” he tweeted. “Hhmmmmm. Let’s find out what really happened."
Minutes later, Canseco posted a picture of his accuser, what he claims is her phone number and where she works. He also wrote: “Funny, I am willing to take a polygraph on National TV. Will you do the same?”
Canseco is no stranger to controversy. The former Oakland A’s slugger 462 career home run career is marred by allegations and admissions of steroids abuse. He infamously penned a tell-all-book identifying several other players as alleged steroids abusers, including one-time teammates Ivan Rodriguez, Rafael Palmeiro and Juan Gonzalez.
Canseco's spokeswoman, Susan Haber in Los Angeles, says she has no immediate information about the case.
