It looked like the Padres were having themselves a pretty nice offseason after having deals in place to add Matt Kemp and Wil Myers, but now things look a bit murkier. It seems that Matt Kemp's medical issues are jeopardizing the deal that would send the former All Star to San Diego.

Miley's Diet The Reason He Was Traded?

According to media reports, Kemp underwent a physical on Tuesday which turned up some surprising results. Physicals are a routine part of any trade, and although they rarely turn up anything major, they are an important step for teams to make sure that they are getting the player they were promised.

In this instance, it is a good thing for the Padres that they did perform a physical, as it turns out that Kemp has arthritis in his hips. The discovery took everyone by surprise, and the Padres are now discussing whether they think the affliction will affect Kemp's career and if they still want to complete the trade.

Is Boston Adding Jordan Zimmermann?

If the deal falls through, it will also impact the Dodgers trade for Jimmy Rollins, as the team sent one of the pieces from the Kemp trade to Philadelphia as part of a package for their longtime shortstop.

The revelation seems unlikely to nix the trade, however, as every team in the league likely considers Kemp a major injury risk. Instead, San Diego could just ask Los Angeles to increase the amount of Kemp's salary that they were going to pay as part of the agreement.
