The Boston Celtics have discussed trading Rajon Rondo quite often over the years, but it seems like this time, the talks may be for real. The Dallas Mavericks are interested in acquiring the point guard, and the timing may be right for Boston to part ways with the former All Star.

According to media reports, the two teams are deep in talks about the trade, and the indication is that Dallas would send Boston multiple draft picks, including a future first-rounder, promising young center Brandan Wright, and other players.

The Celtics have also had discussions with multiple other teams about Rondo, including the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, and Los Angeles Lakers, although a deal with Dallas appears to be the most likely outcome.

Rondo is in the final year of his contract with the Celtics, so it is believed that if Dallas or any other team can reach an agreement for a trade package, they would want to discuss the trade with Rondo and his representatives about the destination to ensure that he will be willing to consider an extension.

Rondo has maintained that he wants to stay in Boston, and he declined to speak at length about the possibility of being traded after the Celtics beat the Orlando Magic on Wednesday night. "[Trade talk has been] a way of life since I've been here," said Rondo. "It's just part of it."

There is no indication whether the deal may happen soon, as Celtics GM Danny Ainge may try to leverage a potential Dallas deal into a better package from another suitor. Since Rondo will have a certain level of input on his destination, both sides may also want to make sure the trade will not fall through before committing to a deal.
