Kevin Durant OKC Tornado: Thunder Star Makes $1 Million Donation To Oklahoma Relief Effort

Oklahoma City star forward Kevin Durant has donated $1 million to tornado relief efforts in Oklahoma City, according to reports.

Durant announced his pledge earlier, joining a growing number of athletes who are lending their voices and resources to all relief efforts. Earlier, Dodgers All-Star outfielder and native son Matt Kemp tweeted:  "I'm giving $1000 for tonight's HR and every HR until the All-Star break for the victims of my hometown in OKC. #PrayforOklahoma"

ESPN also reported New York Mets pitcher Jeremy Hefner actually attended Plaza Towers Elementary, the grade school which was completely knocked down during Monday’s storms and causing a still unknown number of casualties.  Hefner also once attended Briarwood Elementary, the other area school which was also destroyed by the storm.

"It's gut-wrenching and it's saddening and I wish I was there," Hefner told ESPN. Hefner added he also still has family living in the area and was thankful to learn from his mother that all his uncles and cousins were OK.

“It's unfathomable because I lived there," he told ESPN. "I'm praying and feel for the families there."

According to ABC News, The Oklahoma Medical Examiner's Office has officially confirmed 51 deaths from the storm, at least 20 of them children. More than 100 others are being treated at area hospitals.

"Thoughts and prayers to my hometown OKC,” tweeted fellow native son and Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker. “Luckily my family is safe. I have lived in OK a long time. This one might be the worst."
